Militiamen laugh as they travel on the rear of a pick-up truck, racing past a line of nine dead bodies and moving towards the setting African evening sky.

"Observe all this work. Observe this ethnic cleansing," a fighter exclaims.

The individual grins as he turns the camera on his person and his associate combatants, their paramilitary identification visible: "These people will all be killed in this manner."

The combatants are rejoicing over a massacre that aid workers fear killed over thousands of individuals in the African metropolis of al-Fashir last month.

An Urban Center Isolated from the World

Having held the community under siege for almost two years, from the summer the RSF proceeded to reinforce its control and restrict the surviving civilian population.

Space-based imagery show that forces commenced to erect a enormous earth barrier - a built-up earthen wall - around the boundaries of al-Fashir, sealing off access routes and blocking humanitarian assistance.

During the encirclement escalated, 78 civilians were slain in an RSF strike on a mosque on 19 September, while the United Nations said 53 additional were slain in aerial and artillery attacks on a displacement camp in October.

By sunrise on late October the militia conquered the last army defenses and seized the primary base in the urban area, the command center of the 6th Infantry Division, as the government forces withdrew.

Among the most disturbing footage to surface and analysed revealed the consequences of a massacre at a university building on the western of the urban area, where numerous corpses were observed spread across the area.

An elderly man wearing a robe sat alone amid the bodies. The man turned to gaze as a militiaman armed with a rifle proceeded descending the stairs in the direction of the individual. lifting his rifle, the fighter released a single round at the individual, who collapsed to the surface still.

"For what reason is this individual yet breathing," another militiaman shouted. "Kill this one."

Satellite images recorded on late October appeared to confirm that shootings were also conducted on the thoroughfares of el-Fasher, according to a report issued by the academic research center.

A key observer who communicated said the individual had observed "many of our relatives being massacred - the victims were collected in one place and everyone murdered."

Militia Officers Attempt to Carry Out Reputation Management

Following the events that followed the atrocity, militia commander conceded that his troops had carried out "violations" and announced the incidents would be looked into.

Among those detained was subsequent to a analysis documenting his killings. Deliberately choreographed and edited footage published on the RSF's official social media platform reveal the commander being taken into a prison room at a detention facility on the edges of al-Fashir.

At the same time, the RSF and connected social media accounts commenced attempting to reshape the narrative.

Content showing its combatants handing out supplies to inhabitants were disseminated by some accounts, while the militia's media office released numerous videos claiming to show the humane handling of army prisoners of war.

Regardless of the digital effort being used by the RSF, their conduct in al-Fashir have sparked global outrage.
